QUESTIONS

Common Enquiries

If you do not see your question here, please reach out — we are glad to help.

Do I need a will if I am not wealthy? +
A will helps regardless of the size of an estate. It makes clear who should receive your belongings, who should care for minor children, and who is authorised to administer your affairs. Without one, distribution follows the Distribution Act 1958, which may not match what you had in mind.
How long does the probate process take in Malaysia? +
Timelines vary considerably. A straightforward matter with a valid will may take several months. More complex estates, or those without a will, can take longer. We will give you a realistic estimate once we understand the particulars of your situation.
What is the difference between probate and letters of administration? +
Probate is the court order confirming that a will is valid and that the executor named in it may deal with the estate. Letters of administration are issued instead when there is no will — they authorise a family member or other suitable person to administer the estate under the Distribution Act.
Is estate planning only for older people? +
Not at all. Having a will or a basic estate plan in place is a sensible step for adults of any age, particularly after significant life events such as marriage, the birth of a child, or acquiring property. We are happy to help at any stage.
What does a first consultation involve? +
We listen to your situation, explain the relevant legal framework in plain language, and outline the options available to you. There is no commitment required at that stage — the meeting is an opportunity for you to understand what is possible before deciding anything.
Are your fees fixed or billed by the hour? +
For most services we offer a clear stated fee from the outset — RM 190 for a standard will, RM 630 for probate and administration, and RM 415 for estate planning and trust advice. If the scope of a matter is unusual, we will agree the approach openly before proceeding.
